Situated on the slopes of the Medieval town of Cortona, the hotel is immersed in a vast estate featuring a stunning swimming pool with whirlpool bath in one of Tuscany's most enchanting settings. Le Terre dei Cavalieri consists of an ancient farmhouse and villa (Leopoldina) which date back to the 18th-century. Following careful and accurate restoration, the resort offers all modern comforts within a typically historic setting. The resort is the ideal place to spend pleasant and relaxing hours, or to visit the most interesting artistic sites of Tuscany and Umbria.
L'établissement
The estate consists of a Farmhouse and a Leopoldina. You will be able to enjoy your breakfast in a kitchen that used to accommodate over 30 people at a time, sleep in a bedroom converted form the old cattle shed, or in the bedroom converted from the old dove-tower. The walls are adorned with paintings and pictures, but the best images you will be able to behold come from simply opening the windows onto stunning natural settings, such as the dark mountains hanging over Cortona, the sweet and seamless countryside and the profile of Cortona.

By Car: - Take the A1 Milan-Rome motorway. - Exit at the Valdichiana tollbooth and join the toll-free Siena-Perugia speedway in the direction of Perugia. - Take the first exit towards Cortona-Foiano. - If you are travelling on the SS71 Umbro-Casentinese State Road, join the Provincial Road 28 Siena-Cortona following signs for the hospital (Ospedale della Valdichiana). - After approximately ¾ mile, follow a straight dirt track; the old Leopoldina road, which will take you straight to the hotel. By Train: The nearest Station is Terontola Cortona, 5 km from the hotel. By Plane: The nearest airports are in Florence, Pisa and Rome.

In addition to the better known Tuscan cities, such as Florence, Pisa, Siena, Arezzo, Perugia and Assisi, there are many smaller towns and places which are well worth a visit and which can be easily reached by car from Le Terre dei Cavalieri. These include: Cortona - This town is the summer centre of antiques fairs, well known for its magnificent painting of Beato Angelico and its famous Etruhian Museum. Pienza - Founded by Pope Pio II and realised by Piccolomini, this is the city "born from a love of thought and a dream of beauty", a jewel in Renaissance Art. Pienza is also well known for its typical food shops, full of Tuscan specialities. Other beautiful places to visit include: San Quirico d'Orcia, with its marvellous 13th-century Roman Collegiate Church and the 16th-century Horti Leonini; Sant'Antimo, with its charming Abbey, founded by Carlo Magno; Montalcino, kingdom of Brunello wine; Banfi Castle, ancient fortress on the way to the sea, recently restored and now museum of the most refined glass-making techniques for wine bottling.
